KC Vacation 2012

So this year we went to Kansas City for our yearly family vacation.  We didn't want to go too far since the kids are still so little and this was our first vacation with two kids!

We stayed at the Hampton in Lee's Summit.  Very, very nice place and I was so happy with the amenities and cleanliness!

Plus, it had a pool (indoors) so the kids were loving it too!

We got there on Wednesday, July 18th (Dustin's birthday!) and just spent some time in Lee's Summit and went out to do some shopping.  We then went to Fiorella's Jack Stacks for some KC barbecue, which we were really looking forward to.

Sadly, it was only okay.  Apparently, unbeknownst to me, KC barbecue is sauced based.  Yuck.  I'm used to a nice, dry rub meat that gives it flavor.  Instead, the burnt ends I had tasted more like completely bland, unflavored meat doused in sauce, hoping to make it taste good.  No thanks!

The next morning we headed over to Overland Park, KS to the Deanna Rose Farmstead.  It was already close to 100 degrees at 10am so it was MISERABLE!  It's so sad because this was far and away the best thing we did while in KC.  I wish we could've spent more time there since it was so fun but it was just miserable outside in the heat.

A few highlights from Deanna Rose:

Feeding the geese

Grace riding a pony by herself!

Feeding the goats from a bottle

Riding tractor tricycles

Panning for gold and other treasures

Our only picture of the whole vacation as our family of four!
Can you see how red we are and miserable looking--so hot!

Climbing a fence to check out the horses

Kyler relocated rocks while we waited for Dustin and Grace on the wagon ride

We ended up at Crown Center the next day to go to....

LEGOLAND!

Which actually was a bust.  Super expensive and really not that cool.

They had a little room with some cool stuff they had built from legos.

And this fun ride that you would go around and around and if you pedaled hard enough, it would raise you high up in the air.  Grace and Dustin...

And the kids on an elephant and giraffe made from legos.

Mom and Grace taking a turn on the ride.

Really, the ride was the best part.  We were disappointed with how small it was and how little there was to do.  Maybe if they kids were a few years older it might have been a little more fun for them.

We ended up doing a few other things, but sometimes cameras weren't allowed or we just shopped.  There was lots to see but it just seemed to take so long to get anywhere and do anything.  We did swim every night in the pool at the hotel, which the kids just loved!  We went to bed way too late, ate too much, and had some good family time!
