Our funny kids...

My kids are dweebs.  They make me smile.  They have such personalities!

Yesterday while playing outside I asked Grace what kind of birthday cake she wanted.  We talked for a bit and I think she settled on a basketball theme.  She has really been into basketball lately, mainly because of March Madness going on and they play a lot in school.  But really, we're not huge basketball nuts and don't really get into it.

So talking more about what she wanted her birthday party to be like, she added in, "I want to make sure it's a Lebron James cake."  What??????

First off, can't stand Lebron James.  Second, can't stand NBA basketball.  What we do watch is college, NOT pro.  So where on earth was this girl coming from?  Oh, Kindergarten and the boys' influence.  :)  Apparently one of her classmates is a big Lebron James fan. :)

And then this morning I needed to get a plastic Easter egg out as Grace's show and tell for tomorrow needs to be something inside an Easter egg for the class to guess.  Kyler wanted to play with it so I gave it to him.  This is what he proceeded to do with it. :)

He told me I needed to feel the baby in his tummy kick! :)

Love my little weirdos!

Kyler is 3 stats/update

I've got a three year old!  How did that happen????

I had to reschedule Kyler's 3 year doctor checkup since I was sick when we were supposed to go!  So we finally got in there to see what a big, growing, and healthy boy he is!

He was 39 pounds (96th percentile) and was 39 1/2 inches tall (90th percentile).  So his BMI is good!  And he got his blood pressure taken for the first time and they said it was good!

And the best news for Kyler from appointment was that he was up to date on all his vaccines and didn't need a shot!  That made him happy as he was pretty nervous about that part! :)

Kyler has really grown and come out of his shell this past year.  He is much more talkative and much more smiley than he used to be.  I think a big part of his growth stems from Grace being in school and him being forced to come into his own instead of hiding behind his sister's big personality.

Kyler is such a sweet, amazing little boy.  He has started to love reading and has finally learned his colors!  NOW the big thing will be potty training.  He is ADAMANT about not wanting to do it so I hope he changes his mind soon so we can be done with his diapers!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Kyler!!!

Happy 3rd birthday to my sweet, sweet Kyler!

His party was supposed to be on his actual birthday, Saturday, March 22, 2014.  Unfortunately, I got the stomach/GI bug going around on Friday and was out of commission the entire weekend.

We had to cancel/postpone his party and moved it to the following Saturday.  He wasn't as disappointed as I thought he would be.  I think it upset Grace more than anyone! :)

I had baked a cake the day before I got sick but ended up throwing it away as I wasn't sure if it would make anyone sick.  I'd rather be safe than sorry, especially with that bug!  It was no fun!

On his birthday Dustin got them some fast food (Ky's choice) and we gave him the only part of the present we had--a little plastic hunting knife and a little play revolver and sheriff's badge.  It was such a tiny thing but he was SO happy and loved it!  I am so glad we had something for him on his actual birthday and that he was so happy!  I felt terrible about the whole thing but I think it hurt me more than him!

Anyway, the next Saturday we were able to celebrate!  All week I was still recuperating and had very little strength so Hyvee ended up making Ky's cake.  I was heart broken since that's the thing I always do for the kids but I think he was happy and I'm sure there's looked better than what I was going to do anyway!

We opened presents and Kyler got some great things!  He was such a happy boy all day!

And actually the weather was better this day so we got to do the pinata outside and then play on the swing set, in the sandbox, and with some footballs and tee balls!  It was really fun!

So glad we got to celebrate another year of this amazing boy's life!

Ten years ago I made a life changing and life saving decision.  I opened my heart and asked Jesus to be Lord and Savior of my life.

Sounds simple.  :)  And really, it can be!

But my life was not simple at that point.  In fact, it had driven into a downward spiral where I had nowhere left to go.  I literally saw death as the only escape to the pain and misery that encompassed every single second of my life at that point.  All I could do was sleep and function on a very basic level.  Every inch of my body hurt and ached with actual physical pain resulting from my extreme, major depression.

This was not a sudden change in my life.  Through a series of events, places, and people my life had changed.  For several years prior to this point I had developed worsening depression.  I thought changing my circumstances would solve my problems and for a little bit, I felt better.  Moving to a new town, starting college, and meeting all new people helped mask what was lying underneath for nearly a year.  But as I soon realized, I never dealt with the real issues.  I simply covered them up with something new to distract me from them.

When my depression resurfaced, it did so with an intensity I had never known before.  I started experiencing panic attacks which literally froze my body and left me in a state of complete paralysis where I could not even move my hands.  I eventually talked to my primary care physician and ended up on some anti-depressants that never seemed to work.  They may have taken the edge off but the pain and emptiness I felt never went away, even after a couple of months of taking them.

I then lost my friends.  I know now that they didn't want to hurt me by ditching me in my most vulnerable state and that I am sure I was no one anyone wanted to be around.  But that was the last and final straw for me.  The day I discovered them avoiding me (and caught them doing so) was the final straw where I realized I could not go on anymore.  I had been cutting myself as a release from the emotional torment I was feeling.  The emotional pain I felt was so incredibly strong that the only thing that could help me breathe was to feel some sort of physical pain to pull me away from the hurt I was feeling on the inside.  But I wanted to go one step further to rid myself of the pain for good.

God had other plans in mind, thankfully!!!  He knew in His great sovereignty that I could not be reached through preaching and pushing.  He knew that in order to get my attention He had to bring me to the lowest point a human can reach and break me within an inch of my life.  And it worked.  After my suicide attempt I began seeing a Christian counselor.  Her, along with new friends, a bible study, and church as my support system, I began to see the truth in God's Word.  I saw with opened eyes that I never was able to shake the depression because I never accepted the Truth in my life.  Once I learned more about my Creator and my meaning it was very clear to me who I needed to be in order to be whole.  Nothing I could do on my own would ever fix me.  It was up to Him, the one who created me, to do that.  Only His great love could change me forever into the person He created me to be.

This was 10 years ago this month.  And wow, what a 10 years it has been.  I am so grateful that God allowed me more time on this earth to experience the sweet gifts He had in mind for me.  I would have missed out on marrying the love of my life, my beautiful, intelligent daughter, my amazing, sweet son, and a baby whose face I have yet to kiss.

This decision to allow God to work and mold me ten years ago saved my life.  Yes, I will experience eternal bliss in Heaven one day.  That is amazing and something I cannot fathom yet.  It's hard for us simple humans to wrap our minds around the eternal glory that is yet to come.  But in a very carnal, earthly way, He literally saved my life.  And yet I still fail Him daily.  But I am so glad I get the chance to wake up every day to serve the One who is greater than anything else this world or life has to offer!

Six months!!!

Friday marked 24 weeks!

Everything looking good so far and gaining too much weight (17 pounds so far)!!! Starting to feel huge!

Baby #3 blanket

Kyler is very worried that this new baby is going to get his beloved blankie his aunt Lisa made for him when he was born.  To ease his fears I attempted a blanket for the baby (neutrals since we don't know boy or girl!) so he wouldn't have to worry!  Here is the result:

It is full of flaws but it is so warm and soft and comfy!  I did run the sewing machine needle through my finger one time (holy ouch!!!) but it turned out well enough that we can use it!  I'm hoping little baby loves it as much as Ky loves his!

Kyler

Sweet Kyler....

He is so fun and funny.  All just today...

He said he was in my tummy once.  He really liked it there.  But then he almost popped out and he was a boy!

And then he felt the baby moving in my tummy for the first time.  He looked at my belly button, stuck his finger in it and said, "The baby is almost popping out of there!"  He almost seemed alarmed and I think he thought the baby was going to pop right out of my belly button!  I reassured him it would be awhile!

And then he drew this picture for me.

He then told me that God and Jesus went there on the cross!  I asked him why and he said bad guys put him there.  We talked a little more about it.  I love how much knowledge he is gaining at such a young age!
